Leads China’s most entrepreneurial province, Zhejiang, which is also home to DeepSeek, Unitree, Geely, and Alibaba. Formerly was involved in leading Hunan, Jiangxi, and Guizhou. Currently China’s youngest governor. Alternate member of the 20th Central Committee.

Born in 1970 in Jiangsu. Majored in iron and steel metallurgy at Wuhan University of Science and Technology, where he also obtained a master’s degree in engineering. Obtained a PhD in engineering at the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan. Worked for years in the steelmaking industry of Hunan as a technician and company director, before entering politics in Hunan and becoming a local leader. Rotated to Jiangxi in 2011, where he became Secretary General of the Provincial Party Committee. Transferred to Guizhou in 2018 as Secretary-General of the Provincial Party Committee. Elevated to the Party Secretary of Hangzhou (the capital of Zhejiang) due to the corruption scandal that deposed the former Party Secretary Zhou Jiangyong, and due to good performance was then promoted to lead the entire province as Governor. Currently, he is the youngest governor in all of China (note: the governor is below the Party Secretary in rank). Led Hangzhou during major events such as the 2022 Asian Games and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Biography
Similar to Xi Jinping, who was also formerly the Governor and Party Secretary of Zhejiang for five years before being promoted to the Party Secretary of Shanghai; Cai Qi, who was formerly the Mayor of Hangzhou and Vice Governor of Zhejiang; and Li Qiang, who was formerly the Governor of Zhejiang for four years. Also similar to Hu Jintao, who led Guizhou earlier on in his career.
