Lu Dongliang

One of China’s youngest governors who heads Shanxi Province and is an alternate member of the 20th Central Committee. Has extensive experience in mining, coal, and metals, which are still quite important industries in many rural parts of China.

Titles Held

Born in 1973 in Liaoning. Majored in accounting at the North China University of Technology, then worked in auditing for the China Nonferrous Metal Mining Group and the finance department of the China Copper Lead Zinc Group. In 2010, he transferred to the Aluminum Corporation of China Limited, where he eventually became the head of the Lanzhou branch. In 2020 he started his political career by serving as vice governor of Shanxi province, which is highly rich in coal. In 2021, he was promoted to the Standing Committee of Shanxi province while leading Datong city, which is one of Shanxi’s coal hubs. In 2025, he was “unexpectedly” promoted to governor of the province, taking over from Jin Xiangjun who was deposed and expelled from the Party due to corruption.

Biography

Can be compared to Lan Fo’an, currently the Minister of Finance who was formerly Governor and Party Secretary of Shanxi. Lu’s current supervisor in Shanxi, Tang Dengjie, was formerly Minister of Civil Affairs and Governor of Fujian. The current Secretary of Shandong, Lin Wu, was also a former Governor and Party Secretary of Shanxi.
